Irland-Rundreise mit B&B - sehr individuell

09.Oktober 2008

Souvenirs von der grünen Insel Irland

Hi Karen,

Thanks for you phone message. Yes, the trip went very well and we are quite satisfied. If anything, we would have liked to stay longer, but isn't that usually the case? All of the B&Bs were good. We arrived before 4:00 PM at the first one (Cherry Brook), and the owner was a little put out, but we were exhausted. We did get to rest.

The nicest B&B, as far as the building, was Tower View in Dingle. It appeared to have been built as a B&B. However, we weren't in Ireland for fancy lodging. All were clean, friendly with good breakfasts and in good locations. The owner of the B&B in Killkenny owns and shows a horse so that was a good match. The final place (Eden Hill) worked out extremely well. When we looked on the map of the location of the first selection, we saw that where we ended was better for us ? closer to Ennis and the other places we wanted to see. Plus, this farm had a two-day-old donkey foal who was all ears and knees and very cute, and three Irish Thoroughbred foals. After visiting the Irish National Stud we know a lot about horses in Ireland which, by the way, are everywhere.

The Dublin tour was good. It gave us an overview and an easy way to get to the places we wanted to see. If we were to do this again, we would have spent the money to spend the first night in Dublin. Once we got in to the city for the tour, we only had from 11:00 am to 5:30 PM and would have liked more time to see a few more things. We did drive to Greystones and took the DART train into the city at the advice of our B&B hostess.

On our own we made reservations for the Medieval Banquet at Bunratty Castle. We were concerned that it might be a little cutesy, but it turned out to be tons of fun and the castle was very cool.

We liked everything else we visited. There is so much to see and so much history packed into this island. We also noticed on the West Coast, the strong connection the Irish have to the United States especially Boston. We saw one pub sign on the Dingle Peninsula that said "Such-and-Such Pub, farthest west in Ireland. Next pub, Boston."

Robyn
